Dear Deming Silver Linings Supporter,

 

Please accept this invitation to become an ‘official’ member of Deming Silver Linings. Your support has a tangible positive effect on the individuals we serve, our community and society in general. Our mission is to serve the needs of homeless people in Luna County, improving their lives and providing avenues to self sufficiency.

 

The people we serve include families with children, people working in low wage jobs, those suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse, migrant workers,  victims of domestic violence and veterans.  In other words, this is a diverse population with a variety of factors contributing to their homelessness.

 

Our resource center allows the homeless to maintain some dignity by providing shower and laundry facilities, sets of clothing and fresh bedding, toiletry kits and tote bags or backpacks. Houseless folks may use Silver Linings as their address so they can receive mail. We offer a comfortable place to find community and friendly faces. Many people look forward to the morning coffee and non-perishable snack bag we offer and return all day for coffee refills and cups of water. A Peer Support Counselor with S.P.I.N. (Supporting People In Need) is available to help clients navigate the system, obtain lost IDs, and find housing and government support.

 

Our Community Lunch Program offers a lunch four days a week to anyone needing a healthy, well-balanced meal. We serve an average of 83 hot meals per day, Monday to Thursday and hope to be abl to add Fridays soon.

 

Our Thrift Store donations and sales help support our programs and provide a place for our clients and the public to shop for gently used items at reasonable prices. Clients often save up to shop in the store or offer volunteer work in exchange for something they hope to purchase.

 

Deming Silver Linings depends on compassionate giving and talented people like you. Members of our community readily answer our pleas for needed items. When we ran short of sample toiletries we received already made-up bags from motels, Amazon boxes from anonymous donors, and churches dropped off toothpaste and toothbrushes. Many local businesses think of us when they have unneeded supplies.  We’re very fortunate to have so much support in our community and we’d like to have you formally join our efforts and become a member.  We humbly thank you for what you’ve done to help us in the past. Together we will find strength and great ideas in numbers.

Members will be recognized on our web site and Facebook page.   Everyone will receive a membership card,

quarterly newsletter updates on our progress and activities and invitations to member appreciation and fundraising events. We hope you will get to know our volunteers, board members, employees and some of the people who benefit from our efforts.
